Welcome to the new academic year!
The teacher leading Purple Class this year will by myself- Miss Burton- and our teaching assistant will be Mrs Roberts. Both of us have worked in year 6 for a couple of years now and are very much looking forward to working with this new class.

The Autumn Term brings many exciting learning opportunities across the curriculum as I’m sure your children may have already been sharing with you.

We will continue to have daily maths and literacy lessons. Our maths work will be focusing on place value, space and shape and data collection. The children will need to apply these skills to solve word problems and puzzles. There will also be a focus on mental maths; including times tables and arithmetic skills. In our literacy work, we will be working through a range of units: Contemporary Fiction, War Poetry and War stories linked with our main topic of ‘Bombs Away’. As like last year, every other week we will complete either ‘Ink Slinging’ or ‘Book Dipping’. The day these lessons will take place has now changed to a Monday.

Our main topic ‘Bombs Away’ has a history focus and is about World War 1 and 2 and its effects on Britain. There will be many practical and writing activities. The Science topics will be Light and Dark (first half term) and Electricity (second half term). There will be many opportunities to develop scientific enquiry skills as well as develop subject knowledge around these areas of science learning. As like last year, every other week- coinciding with Book Dipping- will be our thinking skills lesson ‘P4C’. During these lessons, children will be given a big question to explore which will be based around everyday life, morals and values.

PE will take place every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon so please ensure PE kits are ready for each lesson. This half term we will be focusing on Cross Country and Tennis.

Year 6 is set to be an exciting year as children take on more roles and responsibilities, some of which are: Head Boy and Head Girl, Values Ambassadors, Wildlife Experts and School Councillors. There will be fun times but also times we will need to put our heads down and work hard.

We’re looking forward to let the learning begin!!!
