Year 1 – Our Class Teacher is Mrs O’Sullivan
This half term Year 1 will be working hard to learn the new daily timetable and will be getting used to a different way of learning.
Every morning the children will have a phonics lesson where they will learn and apply a new sound each day. The children also learn and apply new tricky words. The children are loving phonics!
In maths we will be exploring and beginning to represent numbers up to 20 using new maths manipulatives such as tens frames, double sided counters, numicon, bead strings and deins. We will also be learning to count across 100 orally as well as beginning to count objects more accurately.
In literacy we will be reading the story ‘To the Beach’ and will be working towards writing our own familiar story using repetitive phrases used within the story. We will be learning lots of new common exception words and will be using these within our writing as well as writing sentences using capital letters and full stops.
We are also learning Geography in this half term and will be learning about different locations around the UK.
We are continuing to grow our Values based education, where the children get to grow their moral education and understanding.
We are very excited for our brains to get bigger and for our hearts to grow fuller too!
Please read at home each night with your child and complete homework sent home.
Thanks for all your support,
Mrs O’Sullivan x
